Residents owning Freetown MA real estate enjoy rural surroundings and this is a place unspoiled by commercial development being rich with history. This is a place that is dear to me because of spending much of my youth exploring wooded trails, all along the Assonet village and throughout the Massachusetts state forest, in Freetown.
Freetown is 34 square miles of rich, bountiful and spectacularly beautiful land that has a history dating back to the mid 1600's. Portions of Assonet Village and East Freetown Village are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Assonet was an original part of Freetown in 1683. You must take a stroll through the streets of Freetown, and Assonet to view some of the hist oric homes and buildings.
You will find Assonet MA real state has a small town feeling. See for yourself that her residents are welcoming when you're shopping at the local grocery store. While attending a summer concert in the park, notice the carefree lives and that you sense how safe a place you feel this small town is for her residents.
Genuine is a word that comes to my mind when thinking about the community of Freetown and Assonet. The area has a reputation of people caring about their neighbors and I believe the town's small size is shadowed by the big hearts of her residents. Where a hello is always followed with how are you, and conversation leaving you with the feeling no one is a stranger in this American home town.

Did I mention the miles of lakes, ponds, woods and open space, making Freetown and Assonet a perfect place for buyers looking to settle in quiet, natural surroundings?
The Freetown state forest provides plenty of outdoor year round activity. I go out to this reservation often, having many fond memories of cookouts, swimming, hunting, fishing, bird watching, and have been all around the trails for horseback riding, dirt bikes, mountain bicycles and hiking!
Some of the residents have waterways in their own backyard, which are perfect for boating and conducive for navigation to the Atlantic Ocean. You'll find all along these waterways, and inlets, vessels of all shapes and size. Nothing beats seeing the 4th of July fireworks display over the Assonet River. Speaking of this, the town holds annual events and activities for the entire family. My favorite by far is the fresh strawberry shortcake during June's Strawberry Festival.
Freetown and Assonet has a solid recreation program for children of all ages. This close-nit community makes good use of her natural assets for festivals and entertainment. You can sample the freshest local grown produce and home made favorites traditional to Freetown and Assonet, with some recipes dating back centuries! The towns' best known charm is just how quaint she is and having everything your family needs to call home.
For all you sports fans, the town constructed a replica of the famous Boston Red Sox "Green Monster" right here, at Central Park. The town's children have their very own Fenway Park! How cool is this, imagine your kid up at bat smacking one over the top of the Green Monster!
Freetown has it all and over at Veterans Memorial Park there's a real Cobra Helicopter on display. It's right down the street from the Green Monster. Exciting place to take the family for a evening of baseball, basketball, and all the while you're exploring you can easily learn about American history. It just doesn't get any better!
Wait, it does - Profile Rock, a 50-foot out cropping, which shows a profile of what the Wampanoags believe to be Chief M assasoit. I love this place because you can easily climb to the top and take in views of the forest. Trails that lead from the parking lot take you along the same ground native Americans walked centuries before you. Or, how about spending the day out at Long Pond, a well known spot for water skiing, swimming, fishing and camping. You could go over to Town Beach off County Road. Check out Freetown's Historical Society Open House in September, that's a fun and informative time for all of your family.
Freetown and Assonet, is famous for having the freshest seafood that area residents enjoy all year round.
