The town of Fairhaven's shoreline was the place for the first U.S. Naval battle of the American Revolution dating back to 1775 fought by Fairhaven militiamen aboard the sloop Success.

Before visiting Fairhaven's town center stop by Fort Phoenix, which is a favorite destination for locals to enjoy ocean side picnics. This U.S. Naval Fort was constructed and outfitted with cannons, which are fired annually to this day.

The fort was destroyed back in 1778 by a British invasion. Later rebuilt and named Fort Phoenix visitors today enjoy exploring the old fort and with expansiveU.S. Naval Fort Phoenix Fairhaven MA water views taking pictures next to the ocean is a common activity. There are paved areas that extend out to the harbor's dike, and are used by Fairhaven residents for walking, skating or bike riding.

The grass areas are nice places to relax and watch the ocean. Taking a swim will surely get your appetite up for traditional New England seafood.

There in Fairhaven MA you will find families having clambakes, as this area has the freshest seafood that area residents enjoy all year round. If you ever tasted delicious authentic Southern New England clam chowder, scallops and lobster, then you know this to be why people returning home got to have a clam boil. Just click this link, and we'll email you our directory for real New England Foods that can ship right to your door.

Fairhaven MA is a seaside community and its rich history of whaling and fishing has shaped the maritime industry, as we know it today. There are outfitters and boat yards that can support any size ocean vessel. You will notice Fairhaven's waterfront is active and has a vibrant economy supported by diverse businesses and services. Commercial growth continues along Fairhaven's central Route 6. Residents are served by a number of restaurants, grocery stores, and department stores and there are recreational opportunities for every interest.

The Town of Fairhaven was incorporated on February 22, 1812. The annual 'can't Millicent Library Fairhaven MAmiss' celebrations are special memories for area families. These events include June's Homecoming Day Fair, Fort Phoenix Weekend Encampment and December's Old-Time Holiday Weekend is my favorite.

Must see is the towns center with architectural masterpieces donated by Henry Huttleston Rogers of Standard Oil Company. Walking the tree-lined sidewalks reminds me of yesteryear and the town center is unspoiled by development.

The Fairhaven MA town center historic buildings are constructed of stone with breath taking carvings and intricate designs. Town Hall Fairhaven MA
